About the Organization:
The
Institute is located in Kyabazara Village, Kirowoza parish, Lyantonde Sub
County, Lyantonde district, off Lyantonde–Mbarara road. The location was
chosen due to its vicinity to the Lyantonde district hospital. The idea
behind the establishment of this institute is to confront the problem of the limited availability of
health workers and facilities in Lyantonde district, surrounding districts and the whole south
western region and the country of Uganda at large. The lack of health
institutes has led to a lack of medical practitioners that has put many rural and
poor citizens at risk of treatable diseases, health hazards like malnutrition,
death of mothers during pregnancies and poor livelihoods that has
resulted in many untimely deaths, especially for mothers and children. We are
confident that the training institute will improve
poverty levels and livelihoods of Lyantonde rural communities and Uganda in
general. In a period of 6 years, it planned that each village in Lyantonde and
surrounding districts should be able to have a nurse and a midwife to support
women, pregnant mothers and children live, survive and have enhanced lives and this will reduce poverty levels
among targeted communities.
The
idea of starting this Institute of health professionals, was developed by Mugume Benon, an experienced educationist,
development specialist and an entrepreneur motivator by profession who has vast
knowledge and experience not only as an educator but also as a
trained development worker and
practitioner. Benon believes that for grass root communities to live improved
livelihoods and in reduced poverty, well trained health workers and health services
in villages must be given priority in societies.
